Newmarket 1st XI vs. Wisbech 3rd XI - Saturday 10th July 2010 Scorecard attached Newmarket continued their excellent run of form when they played Wisbech on Saturday. Newmarket lost the toss and were asked to field first on a day and pitch favouring the batting team. However despite this Newmarket kep Wisbech out of the game with tight bowling and good fielding. Sam Rodman had an excellent first spell as he bowled aggresively, picking up 3 wickets for only 14 runs in his 6 overs. Supported by Dave Grainger, Wisbech were reduced to 45-4 after 12 overs, before the first and second change bowlers joined the attack. Mark Muir used flight and turn to pick up 4 wickets and conceeding only 20 runs, alongside Joe Rodman who collected 2 victims for 18 runs. Wisbech struggled from the start and only managed to compile a score of 83 from 24.2 overs. Chasing a small total, Newmarket started in the best possible way with 20 runs coming from the first two overs. Ollie Rix continued his rich vain of form but was initially out scored by fellow opener Gary Maggott (40) who took Newmarket close to victory in quick time before being bowled by a good yorker from L. Peck. Liam Cocks joined Rix at the crease but the game was over as Rix hit the winning runs and finished unbeaten on 42. Newmarket managed to reach the modest total in only 12.3 overs, winning by 9 wickets and they remain in second place in the league behind unbeaten St. Ives, who they are yet to play. Newmarket's man of the match was Mark Muir for his excellent spell of spin bowling, taking 4 wickets for only 20 runs in 6.2 overs. |
