Newmarket 1st XI vs. Wilburton at Newmarket Scorecard attached Newmarket were asked to bowl first in the second game at their new ground at the Severals in Newmarket. Apart from the loss of an early wicket, Wilburton started well, scoring at over five runs an over for the first ten overs. A change in bowling brought the second wicket of the match as Ollie Rix collected two wickets from his first two balls. However this did not deter Jacobs who carried on scoring before being dismissed by Dave Grainger for 42, who picked up 3 wickets from his 10 overs. Wiburton weren't able to press on and lost regular wickets, with the remaining Newmarket bowlers picking up wickets, Asgar Ozhakkal taking 2 for only 4 runs and Gareth Godfrey 2 for 7 runs. Wilburton only managed to set a modest total of 118, and knew they would need to take early wickets to stand a chance of getting a result from the match. Newmarket were never in trouble as the two opening batsmen eased their way to the total. Although scoring was slow early on, they made up for this later on and gave few chances for Wilburton to get a breakthrough. Gary Maggott continued his recent for finishing the game with 42 not out, accompanied by Ollie Rix who finished with 67 not out. Newmarket won the game by 10 wickets. Their man of the match for his solid return to bowling was Gareth Godfrey, who finished with figures of 2-7 from 3 overs. Newmarket remain in second place behind St. Ives who are still to be beaten, but still have two games against Newmarket who will look to continue their unbeaten run to the end of the season. |
