|
Newmarket 1st XI vs Sutton Newmarket lost the toss and were put into bat on a hot and sunny day. Newmarket made a solid start with a good opening partnership between Ollie Rix (24) and Asgar Ozhakkal (42). Sutton fought back in the 10th over, removing Rix, followed by two further wickets in the next few overs. This brough Dave Grainger to the crease who continued his good run of form with the bat by hitting five 4's and two 6's in his solid 48. Grainger was eventually removed by Laxman, however a good performance from the Newmarket lower order, including Liam Cocks (25 not out) and Andrew Blake (22 not out) who helped Newmarket finish on 210-9 from their 40 overs. Sutton's reply started slowly with Sam Rodman bowling tight and aggressive, picking up five wickets from his two spells. The Sutton middle order tried to get their side back into the match with some aggressive batting from Singh (34), Grady (21) and Campbell (26), however the required run rate remained too high for them to stay in reach. Sutton finished up with 148 all out from 37.5 overs, resulting in a 62 run win for Newmarket. Newmarket's man of the match was Sam Rodman for his good spell of bowling, returning with figures of 10 overs, 4 maidens, 5 wickets for 16 runs. |
