DIV 2NA Saturday 22nd May 2010 Wisbech 3rds Away
|
Newmarket traveled to Wisbech on a wet day where not too many games were played due to the weather. Newmarket batted first in a matched reduced to 32 overs a side and immediately lost one of their opening batsmen for 0. However a big partnership from Ollie Rix (66) and Liam Cocks (85 not out) put them in complete control with the score reaching 108-1 after the 18th over. Rix finally departed after hitting a leading edge back to the bowler, however more runs came as Sam Rodman hit a quickfire 41 from 22 balls which included four 6's. Rodman was later bowled trying to push the score further but the damage had been done, with Newmarket finishing their 32over innings on 213-6. Wisbech started strongly knowing they were chasing down a big score. Although the runs flowed Newmarket kept taking wickets with Ollie Rix taking 4-21 from 5 overs, well supported by Asgar Ozhakkal (2-41) and Joe Rodman (2-27). The regular loss of wickets and with sharp fielding from Newmarket, Wisbech were always chasing the game and fell short of the target finishing on 145 all out from 27.1 overs. Newmarket won the game by 68 runs. Newmarket's man of the match was Liam Cocks for his excellent unbeaten innings of 85. |
